Just a quick update on the ride for the website ...Motorcycle pilots are as follows (in no particular order) ...Lowell Doublin, Asst. General Manager, Fort Worth Vehicle Auction, riding Harley Davidson Dyna Wide GlideKen Stringer, Owner, Pressman Printing Inc, Fort Worth Texas, riding Harley Davidson Screaming Eagle Electra Glide"Big John" Williams, Owner, Big John Motor Company, Haltom City, TX, riding Harley Davidson Heritage SoftailGary Kloss, General Manager, Language Line Services, Keller, TX, riding Harley Davidson Dyna Wide GlideJason Keese, Sales Representative, Remarketing Solutions, Nashville, TN, riding Honda Shadow 1100Brad Potts, Owner, Fidelity Remarketing, Fort Worth, TX, riding Harley Davidson Ultra ClassicLarry Hogg, Body Shop Manager, Frontier Auto Body Repair ( a Division of Fort Worth Vehicle Auction), Crew Chief, drove chase vehicle (donated by Enterprise Rent-A-Car) and pulled 1-2 bike trailer (offered by Ken Stringer, owner, Pressman Printing, Fort Worth TX).The ride got off, on time, from the IHOP Restaurant located in SW Fort Worth at 0600 hours.
The riders enjoyed cool temps while motoring westbound through Weatherford, TX enroute to Mineral Wells, TX. Coffee was provided to riders by retired TX State Trooper Richard Shea (and his bride) in Mineral Wells, TX. The ride then headed South through Palo Pinto, Santo, Lipan, and Granbury ... then south through Glen Rose, Hico, Hamilton, Lampasas, Burnet ... then a quick buzz around Inks Lake ... then south to Johnson City, West to Fredericksburg, south thru Kerrville to Medina. The rain set in between Medina and Vanderpool. Heavy thunderstorms caused the riders to deviate from the planned route. A stop in Leakey (at the Frio Canyon Motorcycle shop ... where we wolfed down some wonder BBQ sandwiches) revealed that some of the planned roads were under construction - and were unpaved (dirt turned to mud due to the rain). A quick route change was indicated! The motorcycle jocks then ran the mountain tops, enroute to Kerrville, and encountered goats, sheep, albino deer, ferrel hogs. Due to a severe lack of wildlife fencing, the riders had to slow down to avoid collision w/said critters.
Nearing Kerrville .. an astute State Trooper noticed that one of the riders didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign. While the un-named rider (Big John, I'll keep this part a secret) was getting his citation, the other riders enjoyed an un-scheduled break on the entrance ramp to Hwy 10, Eastbound. More Thunderstorms were encountered at Kerrville (extended stop). Lowell volunteered to suit up in rain gear (which scared the storms off) ... but additional storms were encountered between Kerrville and Llano. All the bikes were filthy by this point (not to mention the pilots). The remainder of the trip was uneventful and all riders re-entered the metroplex by midnight. 789 miles were registered on the official odometer. All pilots were safe ... no breakdowns ... no injuries (except for Big John's sunburn). It was a very good ride, for a very good cause. I look forward to the ride next year! Thanks to all for making it such a success.
Thank you Lowell for that update .. look for photos soon, and keep checking in for updates on the planned 2006 event.
Something New for 2005 !
This year on August 6th - beginning at 5AM - Jeremy's Ride 2005 will commence.
Quite an undertaking, an 800 mile trek across some of the most beautiful areas in the Great State of Texas.
The ride will begin in Southwest Fort Worth, where after a quick and casual breakfast and meeting riders will depart for the following destinations:
I-20 to Highway 180 off to Mineral Wells and Palo Pinto .. then Highway 4 South through Santo to Granbury, moving on to Highway 114 South to Glen Rose (land of the dino's), continuing on Highway 67 South through Hamilton, Lampassas and a quick trip on Park Road 4 traveling by Inks Lake. Then back to 281 South through Marble Falls and then to Johnson City. Highway 290 west (via Luckenbach) to Fredericksburg .. then Highway 16 South through Kerville to Bandera. WOW .. and only half way through .. Once in Bandera - a free-for-all through the Texas Alps - visiting Tarpley, Utopia, Rio Frio, Garner State Park, Leakey, Vanderpool, Medina, Campo Verde, etc. From there - back to Kerville, Fredericksburg, Llano, Goldthwaite, Stephenville then to Granbury and finally to Fort Worth.
Depending upon how much time is spent goofing off in the gorgeous Texas Alps area, riders should arrive back in the metroplex by sundown with an additional 750 - 800 miles on the odo.
This will be a very fast-paced trip and is not for casual riders. Fuel/food/beverage stops will be short and to the point. The goal is to log miles for Jeremy's Friends .. lots of miles for Jeremy's Friends.
What it takes to participate: Riders will be required to have sponsorship for miles ridden, or a donation to Jeremys Friends. Minimum sponsorship/donation is $ 250.00.
What is provided: Crash Truck (courtesy of Enterprise Rent-A-Car) and 2-bike trailer will accompany all riders for any mechanical breakdowns. Anyone turning back and not completing the ride will be on their own. Beverages and snacks will be provided during the ride. Absolutely NO alcohol will be permitted on the ride. Once the bikes are parked for the night, well that's a different story.
This ride is going on RAIN, SHINE, HOT or COLD .. whatever! Let's ride for the cause.
